Explainer Videos: Planet Labs PBC, Walgreens, Pfizer, Cooper Companies

A company that photographs the entire planet every day, for people who’ve never thought about satellites. A new technology, for a CEO with ten minutes. A new-business pitch, for a review committee that’s seen everything. An HR program, for the employees hardest to reach. Each one in a form people watch to the end.

Concept video

Planet Labs PBC photographs the entire planet every day, using a constellation of shoebox-sized satellites launched in flocks. The scale of it is the hardest part to convey — and the part that makes everything else about the company make sense.

No brief, no client. I made this to find out whether I could explain a company’s whole premise in under a minute using only type, image, and score. A real Dove flight unit, NASA deployment stills animated into a camera move, a licensed murmuration clip, and generated orbital footage for the rest.

An independent concept piece. Not commissioned by, affiliated with, or endorsed by Planet Labs PBC.

Technical project video for a CEO

CEOs have limited time, and they want the shape of a technical idea rather than its mechanics. So, I concepted a short, high-level explainer video — enough to understand what Project P was and why it mattered, and nothing beyond that.

Because there was no budget, we made the video ourselves. Two of my direct reports built the animated characters, a copywriter drafted the script, and the designers recorded the voiceovers. No production company, no talent, no money — a team that wanted the idea to survive the meeting.

The CEO understood Project P immediately and gave it the go for further exploration.

Quick, low-cost pitch video

At frog design, a Capgemini Invent, we had a last-minute opportunity to pitch for all of Pfizer’s marketing content business. I thought a short video could give the review committee something quick and entertaining before they worked through pages of written proposal.

With no budget and no time, I built it from sampled stock footage, worked with a copywriter on the voiceover script, and used AI audio and music sampling for the sound.

We were invited into the final round.

Reaching younger employees

Cooper Companies had a large population of Gen Z and younger employees — an audience that didn’t engage with PowerPoints or leave-behind booklets. But the company needed them to understand its Performance Empowerment Process (PEP).

Video is what this audience already watched every day. So, I created an animated explainer, using AI tools (Powtoon, Murf) for the animation, music, and audio to produce it quickly and at low cost.

75% improvement in PEP engagement across all employees — and 100% among the company’s youngest.

Have a system that takes 20 minutes to explain and 4 minutes to decide on?
